Antigua Barbuda Horticultural Society is the centre for learning teaching and sharing the science of plants. We enhance the process with a seed bank where we collect and store heritage seeds for distribution for our farmers, local residents and visitors.

Cedar Pottery Event

We  are invited to register http://cedarspottery.com/wordpress/  next Saturday
28th, from 2 – 6pm.

Come and enjoy a creative afternoon Painting A Pot, participating in a session of creative writing and relaxing in the sculpture garden. This event will have the added attraction of a Pop up Market with amongst other things handmade soaps from Antigua and exciting items from India.

The registration fee of EC$75 includes a 45 minute session of creative writing, the studio fee and light refreshments. The pots for Paint A Pot are an additional cost with a starting price of EC$35.

Agave House and gardens are almost ready for visitors!

We are working feverishly to get the house and garden done, so we can move into our new home at last!!Thanks to all and in particular to Gary and Telly for their complete dedication to building our little project.

We are indebted to Mr. Patrick Ryan and co for his incredible generosity, and to Mr. Jason Goddard of Paint Plus, look for the great colours we are painting.

Gloriosa

 

Gloriosa is a genus of 12 species in the plant family Colchicaceae, and include the formerly recognised genus Littonia. They are native in tropical and southern Africa to Asia, and naturalised in Australia and the Pacific as well as being widely cultivated.[2] The most common English names are flame lily, fire lily, gloriosa lily, glory lily, superb lily, climbing lily, and creeping lily.

 

They are tender, tuberous rooted deciduous perennials, adapted to summer rainfall with a dormant dry season. All parts of the plant contain colchicine and related alkaloids and are therefore dangerously toxic if ingested, and contact with the stems and leaves can cause skin irritation. Various preparations of the plant are used in traditional medicines for a variety of complaints in both Africa and India. In Indian language of Telugu, in the state of Andhra Pradesh it is called Naabhi and was used in traditional medicine.
