ABHS Agave Seed Club for children  

For Food Security

Dear Schools: 

The Antigua Barbuda Horticultural Society Invite 10 children each month to the Agave gardens for the following program:

We will have a class room style program : Introduction to  seeds:

  • Introduction to seeds, their anatomy, seed collection methods.
  • To volunteer by helping to collect, sort, dry and package seeds
  • Introduction to- in garden plants
  • Create little green houses for germination e.g. egg cartons then transplant seedlings to the garden.
  • Each student will be given seeds
  • Teach the value and appreciate nature
  • Encourage seed saving at home by providing containers and instruction on how to collect seeds.

In the event that your school is interested we are pleased to speak with your teachers to help with arranging the program, the day and time that would be suitable for your school.

We are inviting you each Monday to come in to Agave Gardens and browse our seed collection take some home and see our seedlings!

We have created a schools section in the seed bank with a variety of fruit and vegetable seeds. Join our school day grow some seeds.

Update of ABHS Agave Gardens

Hello All, thank you for renewing your membership, we are very pleased with your response, for anyone who is still planning to rejoin we are able to send you a self addressed, stamped envelope, give us a call.

Remember the biggest benefit of membership is the satisfaction of helping improve the environment and build greener communities.

Our programs will start by October , Flower Arranging, Orchid Care, Plant Care and get to know our new approach to gardening.

Pleased to offer Stephanotis seeds beautiful seeds attached to pretty white fluff, the fruit is shaped like an avocado then it bursts open and produce a rather large compliment of seeds.
